ABOUT THIS PROJECT:

EnviGuard is a response to the growing need for accurate real time monitoring of the seas/ocean and the aquaculture industries need for a reliable and cost-effective risk management tool. The implementation of the EnviGuard system will allow for early detection of harmful algae blooms (HAB), chemical contaminants, viruses and toxins thus preventing economic losses.

The objective of the EnviGuard project is to develop an in situ device for the currently hard to measure man-made chemical contaminants and biohazards in marine environment. This device will be used as an early warning system to assess the good environmental status of the sea or aquacultures in compliance with the MSFD (Marine Strategy Framework Directive).

This collaborative project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).

THE ROLE OF LIONIX INTERNATIONAL:

For the EnviGuard project, LioniX International provides the liquid handling system for the ‘Chemical Detection Unit’; the CDU. This includes the overall system-level integration of the CDU to work together with the sample-pretreatment system. To accommodate all fluidic operations, a rotary valve has been developed which changes the fluidic path as needed for each protocol-step.
